The Club Environment

I wanted to write this blog to show others a few tips tricks as well as my personal experience in the mobile DJ and production field. I’ve been in the field for about 10 years now and I’ve learned a lot of things. Small things can sometimes have the biggest effect on a lighting show and sometimes the big things and usually most expensive things won’t have the effect that matches the cost. You don't always need the big intelligent lighting, sometimes just a few DJ laser lights, as long as it's different.

I’ve been frequenting clubs and big special events almost every weekend learning and putting together a pretty solid knowledge foundation on everything to do with environment, set-up, cost, and of course production of sound & lighting. From being there that long I felt it was about time to share some of the knowledge I have within me for everyone willing to take the read and learn and either agree with what I’ve noticed or disagree, there’s nothing like a good conversation and personal preference in an industry like this.

In my first blog I wanted to give my personal experience with a few shows and what they did right and what I felt they could have improved on, and sometimes what I could have improved on based on my own judgement as well as the judgement of others.

First I want to talk about night clubs in general. Usually when I go to a place I don’t see any lighting at all. I usually walk in and there’s a few cheap spinning disco heads. A lot of clubs will focus more on the sound then the environment. What they need to understand is in order to be a top quality club you need to both understand that sound has a role as well as the lighting and the environment. Most clubs will just be all sound base, and that’s good and needed but lighting as well as a good atmosphere is just as important. People usually consider lighting just a nice added extra but really what the lights are doing are setting a mood; whether it be to set a vibrant club atmosphere with some DJ lasers, big intelligent lighting & strobes or an underground raving scene with some red lasers & a dim lighted atmosphere. Subconsciously people feel exactly what their environment is telling them and this can be dictated just by the lights and set-up. When you have enough people feeling the same thing in a club it adds even more energy and making it exactly how it’s supposed to. A lot of places I go I feel don’t take advantage of the general set-up so I wanted to start with that.

Another important small thing that you can do is look for unique lighting as well as gadgets such as a CO2 cannon, a special animation DJ laser as well as other things of the sort. Maybe a confetti blaster for new years etc. What people need to really realize is that different is usually good. People want a new experience not just the same old blasting music and cheap lighting. Try something new, I saw an event once with all DJ laser lights and nothing more and it was a huge hit that started a laser revolution in the city. Be the one to start the trend.

For more laser lighting information check out an article I found that's about choosing the perfect laser light for you. I came across it and agreed with a lot of it and decided to share it. You can find it : Choosing the Right Laser Lighting Article .

Here's a simple video of a cheap DJ laser light, it doesn't have to be expensive it just has to be different. I found this video on Z Lasers. It's where I've gone in the past for laser lights and it has over 50+ lasers with HD videos and pictures for each. Considering I'm using one of there videos I wanted to give them credit. You can visit them at there site to see all the different available Laser Lights.
